I Got Better, So Can You

You may know that when I started in the spray foam industry in 2004, I had no idea what I was doing, I knew nothing about spray foam insulation.

In my first 15 months, I attended 13 spray foam contractor training classes, because I had too, it was my job.

I sat through the same presentations, conducted by the same presenters, over a dozen times.

And at every single presentation, I learned something new.

The repetition implanted the knowledge in my head, so it was there when I needed it.

I started with no knowledge, and just 15 months later, I was teaching the training class.

I gained the knowledge and confidence I needed about spray foam insulation to share the information and teach others.

Then I changed positions, moved to Florida, and went into sales, starting a new career path with a new learning curve.

Once again, I learned by repetition and action. Being taught concepts in training programs and then putting them to use in the real world, then getting more training and using that new knowledge, combined with the previous knowledge and experience in the real world.

This kept happening, over and over again, as I grew and found myself in new positions.

When I started an architectural specification program at Demilec – same thing, training, learn, use.

When I created the Engineering Department at Demilec – it was the same process, training, learn, use.

And, when I became Chief Operations Office at Demilec – the same thing happened, training, learn, use.

All of this training and experience helped me GROW and become the person I am today.

After I left Demilec I had an “Ah-Hah Moment”.

I realized that in more than 10 years on the inside, working with architects, builders, code officials and SPF contractors, I had accumulated a lot of unique knowledge and experience related to spray foam insulation and pretty much every part of the SPF business.

And if I could figure out how to package this information – maybe training and consulting – somehow I could help a lot of people in the spray foam industry, so I started my new company, Spray Foam Advisor.

But I soon realized that no matter what training, education and consulting I offer, it might not matter, if you did not want to GROW your business or if you did not know how to GROW your business.

So I had to go to work and understand how people GROW and get better and how businesses GROW and get better, so that I could share that with you, and lay the foundation for all of the training and education that Spray Foam Advisor could develop in the future.

This lead to in-depth research and study on success.

I read books by Napoleon Hill, John Maxwell, Jim Rohn, Steven Covey and more.

I studied some of the names that you know well – Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Warren Buffet & Oprah.

And I even went back almost 100 years to look at the success of Henry Ford, Thomas Edison and Andrew Carnegie in the early 1900s.

You see, I have stood on the shoulders of giants to see where I am going and then I followed in their footsteps. I found that with all of their success, they attributed it to the same common themes, that you and I can use to G.R.O.W.
