Last week we discussed the third key to success, Pay Attention, and over the next few weeks we will take a deeper look at the remaining keys to success and see how they might help you go to the next level.
Today we are going to talk about the fourth key to success, Ask Questions.
Be curios and inquisitive along your way. Have you ever noticed that often the best students ask the most questions? This is not a coincidence.
Peter Drucker once said:
“My greatest strength as a consultant is to be ignorant and ask a few questions.”
It is on you to wonder how and why. Do not assume, ask questions, have a thirst for knowledge and drink it in. Don’t be shy or scared to ask a few questions; if you are wondering, most likely someone else is too. Others have asked the same question before you, and others will ask after you have come and gone; be courageous, have 20 seconds of courage to ask a question and then PAY ATTENTION so you can understand the answer. Questions unlock and open doors that otherwise remain closed and they are the most effective means of connecting with people.
When it comes to learning new things, one of the best methods of learning is mentoring – working with and modeling someone that has done it before you. If other people have done it before you, ask around, find out who and then ask for help. This could shorten your journey and you may be surprised at who you meet and what you learn along the way.
Over the next few weeks, we will continue to take a deeper look at the Five Keys to Success and how they might help you go to the next level and achieve some astounding, audacious, ridiculous goal.
