Decision Making

Last week we discussed Organized Planning.

This week we discuss Decision Making, Napoleon Hill’s Seventh Characteristic of Successful People.

Analysis of over 25,000 men and women that experienced failure showed that lack of decision was near the head of the list for major causes of failure. Procrastination, the opposite of making a decision, is a challenge that nearly everyone must battle and overcome. Like most people, you might want to wait for all of the information before you make a decision, however most decisions in life have to be made with incomplete information, and this leads to indecision and procrastination.

In business and life, making decisions with 60 to 80% of the information is quite common. So, the more comfortable you are making decisions with incomplete information, the more effective you can be. Gut instinct or intuition is often relied upon to complement the available information and render a decision. You should strive to reach decisions promptly and change decisions slowly.

Also, be cautious of how others affect your decision making. If you are easily influenced by others you will be drawn off course. Close friends and relatives can often handicap one through opinions and ridicule, often meant to be humorous. You have to identify the key people in your life, that that have a positive outlook, truly want more for you and have knowledge or skills that may help you. These people are not easy to find and can become your private counsel or your very own Master Mind Group.

When preparing for decisions, you need facts and data. Gather this information in the best way you can. This may lead to working with others or calling on your Master Mind Group for assistance. Pay attention, be observant and listen more than you talk. Once you are comfortable with the information at hand, you have a brain and mind of your own, use it to reach your own decisions.

And remember, those who reach decisions promptly, and definitely know what they want, generally get it.

Stay tuned to learn more about Napoleon Hill’s success principles from Think and Grow Rich. Next week we will talk about Persistence.
