Last week I talked about how to create your own goals, because having written and clearly defined goals will improve your chances of getting what you want.
And to help you out, this week I am going to share with you one of my goals for 2017.
As we discussed last week, you have to start by letting your mind go and dreaming, then you create a SMARTER goal and develop a plan of action.
Now let’s look at one of my goals as an example.
Developing and launching online spray foam training courses is one of my primary focuses this year.
My Goal: Develop and launch four web-based spray foam training courses by December 31, 2017.
Let’s check this goal against the SMARTER criteria.
Is it specific? Yes, it focuses on web-based spray foam training courses.
Is it measurable? Yes, there is a firm number. I use four courses as a key component to create my plan of action.
Is it attainable? Yes, I have the knowledge and I can do this.
Is it realistic? Yes, three months per course seems realistic; staying consistent in development and implementing technology will be the most difficult components.
Is it time-bound? Yes, the date is the deadline.
Is it enthusiastic? Yes, I have been developing my web-site in preparation for launching web-based courses.
Is it resourced? Yes, my action plan includes time every day to complete the necessary tasks.
Great, this goal meets the SMARTER criteria, now I need a plan to achieve it.
I need about 2 weeks for the initial launch of the course.
Then by assuming that each of my courses will be about 30,000 words, this does not have to be exact, it’s just an estimate to give me something to base my action plan on, I need about 4 weeks to write the content and an additional 4 weeks for content capturing, editing and publishing.
My first checkpoint is having the whole course written at the end of four weeks, which I can break down into daily actions of writing at least 1500 words per day for 20 days.
Overall this plan leaves me with 2 additional weeks of flex time, to use as I see fit, to overcome any roadblocks or obstacles in the process.
Now it’s your turn.
Start with your dreams, wants and desires.
Create your SMARTER Goals.
And develop a plan with checkpoints to keep yourself on track.
If you do this, you will be surprised with what you can accomplish.
