Last week we discussed Imagination.
This week we discuss Organized Planning, Napoleon Hill’s Sixth Characteristic of Successful People.
Everything created or acquired starts with desire, and once processed with the power of imagination, plans are shaped and organized.
No individual alone has sufficient experience, education, natural ability and knowledge to achieve your greatest desires without the cooperation of other people. Therefore Napoleon Hill offers the following recommendations on building practical plans for success:
- Surround yourself with a group of people, your Master Mind group, that may help you carry out your plans
- Identify what you can offer others in turn for their support and assistance, this does not always have to be in the form of money
- Meet with members of your Master Mind group at least twice a week, more often if possible, until you have collectively perfected your plan
- Maintain harmony between yourself and the members of your Master Mind group
If your first plan does not succeed, replace it with another. If this new plan fails to work, replace it with yet another, and so on, until you find a plan which does work. This is where most people fail, they lack the persistence necessary to keep going until they find the plan that works. No follower of the success philosophy can reasonably expect to find success and accumulate their desires without experiencing challenges and temporary defeat along the way. How you react to these obstacles can very well be the difference between success and failure.
You may have heard that Thomas Edison “failed” 10,000 times before he perfected the incandescent electric light bulb. He met with temporary defeat 10,000 times before his efforts were rewarded with success, and this quote shows the great attitude and viewpoint he had of his trials and tribulations:
I have not failed. I have successfully found 10,000 ways that will not work.
Of course, Thomas Edison is now a household name because he had a profound effect on the course of civilization as we know it and his legacy still has an effect on each of us every day.
This law of impact applies to you as well. The magnitude of your success will be directly proportional to what you do and the number of people that you influence; this requires leadership. You do not have to be leader now, all great leaders start out as great followers, but to achieve massive success you need to continuously work on your leadership skills. Napoleon Hill identifies 11 characteristics of great leaders:
- Courage
- Self-Control
- Keen Sense of Justice
- Definiteness of Decision
- Definiteness of Plans
- Habit of Doing More Than You Are Paid For
- Pleasing Personality
- Sympathy and Understanding
- Mastery of Detail
- Willingness to Assume Full Responsibility
- Co-operation
Pay attention and apply these concepts and you can be on the path to convert your desires into plans and lead your own way to success.
