Last week we discussed the first three fears, this week we will discuss the other three fears Napoleon Hill cautions us against.
- The Fear of Loss of Love of Someone
- The Fear of Old Age
- The Fear of Death
The Fear of Loss of Love
This fear grew out of ancient man’s habit of stealing his fellow man’s mate. This fear is the most painful of all the six basic fears. It probably plays more havoc with the body and mind than any of the other fears. People that succumb to the fear of loss of love may experience jealousy, being suspicious of friends and loved ones without evidence and general suspicion of everyone.
The Fear of Old Age
Major causes of this fear include the possibility of ill health as people grow older and diminishing sexual attraction. People that succumb to the fear of old age are generally concerned about the possibility of loss of freedom and independence, slow downing, missing a step or “slipping” and blaming it on age. Which can lead to loss of initiative, imagination and self-reliance.
The Fear of Death
We do not know what to expect after death and, for some, this leads to inactivity. People that succumb to the fear of death find themselves thinking about death too often and focusing on what comes after. Death will come no matter what, there is no use in worrying about it. Instead live in the now, take action and realize, that regardless of your beliefs, death is either a transition to something else or, if not, then nothing comes after death except a long, eternal, peaceful sleep, and sleep is nothing to be feared. Thus you may wipe out the fear of death.
Fear leads to the same type of response in people – indecision, self-doubt and in-action. Focus on your desires, the plans by which to achieve them and the actions you have to take to complete those plans and, while you may never rid yourself of fear, you may control your thoughts and actions and quiet the effects of fear.
It is your turn to Think, Believe, Act and Achieve!!!
Stay tuned next week as we complete our review of Napoleon Hill’s Think and Grow Rich with Hill’s guidance on the effect of negative influences.
